Templates Update
Fluid Engine
What's new in this update?
01
Built on Fluid Engine
It's been almost 2 years since FE's release, and after many stability improvements, new features, and overall polish… I finally felt it was time to upgrade all 160+ pages of my templates! With greater overall flexibility in design, Fluid Engine easily lets you create the site you want, without the limits of being stuck in a column-based layout.
02
Updated designs
With over 500+ templates delivered, it was time for some fresh paint! All designs got updates: Some minor, like adding the new Donation Block to Retrograde—and some major, like overhauling Abode. Everything feels generally more up-to-date and fresh.
03
Remotely updatable code
SQSP sometimes pushes platform-wide updates without any warning, which has historically led to template code breaking, requiring manual adjustments from the site owner (very annoying). This new setup changes that. Now, if Squarespace pushes a change that affects your template, I can remotely update the CSS and quickly make updates on-the-fly.
04
"Flex" site-wide animation
Objectively the coolest, most interesting site-wide animation, now in all templates! There are a few default quirks with the base animation that always bothered me (why I never used this option) — but many tweaks later and it works flawlessly.
05
Inter 4.0 font family
One of the most beloved typefaces on the planet (or beyond, since NASA uses it too), finally in Squarespace: Inter, by Rasmus Andersson. The latest Inter 4.0 updates make for an incredibly versatile experience. All templates except Handshake now use this as the body font.
06
Template docs
Everything you need to know about your template's customizations and features, all in one tidy new home. By creating a library of items, I'm able to update and add more feature-specific details — so long, static "Template Manual" page! Template Docs are now live, with more items coming soon.
Some questions you might have…
Do I really need to upgrade?
Nope, it's totally optional. If you're satisfied with your existing website built with SQSP Classic Editor and don't want to spend the time making a new site, then don't worry about this update.
Can I apply this to my existing site?
No, afraid not. "Templates" are standalone, fully built-out websites that aren't able to be applied (like a theme) to an existing site. To use these new updated templates, you'd have to rebuild your site.
Do you still support Classic Editor sites?
Of course! I still fully stand by my promise of lifetime email support. Though, I suspect that over time, Squarespace will add new features that only Fluid Engine sites can use… so you may want to upgrade eventually anyway!
Do I need to pay again?
No — if you've already purchased a design and want the latest version, just complete this form to request it, free of charge.
How is Fluid Engine better?
Simply put, FE makes everything in SQSP more customizable, and easier to format. Things that took 200+ lines of CSS code to modify before can be done by default now. It's much more powerful and better equipped to handle any website's needs.
